Self-help techniques

  •        Reassurance.
  •        Encourage talking about the problem.
  •        Try and work out the triggers.
  •        Seek appropriate help. 
  •        Have a healthy varied diet – avoid sugars, caffeine or stimulants.
  •        Practice daily relaxation methods.
  •        Regular physical activity – at least 30 minutes a day.
  •        Engage in leisure time and fun activities.
  •        Get adequate sleep.
  •        Practice controlled breathing methods.
  •        CBT.

Where to get help

  •        Speak to your child’s Classteacher/Headteacher. 
  •        GP.
  •        School Nurse (referrals either through school or GP).
  •        If a pupil needs urgent care, but it's not life threatening call 111.
  •        If a pupil’s life is threatened by their symptoms call 999 or advise the parent/carer to visit A&E.
  •        CAMHs (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service).
  •        Counsellors.
